Sumitomo Unveiles a Series of New Tires at Tokyo Auto Show

The visitors of Tokyo Auto Show were lucky to see new tires from different tire makers. One of them, Sumitomo Rubber Industries, Ltd. unveiled there a concept tire made from natural non-oil materials as well as several new tires.

In 2001 Sumitomo became excluding “black gold” from itsindusrty. By 2005 the amount of oil products in its rubber compound was reduced by 30 per cent and the world saw the Dunlop Enasave 70 tire. Three years later there came the Dunlop Enasave 97 tire that was compounded from non-oil materials and included 97 per cent of them.

After that Sumitomo was doing a pofound research to find out alternative sources of three materials, namely antioxidants, vulcanization fasteners and technical carbon. The fist two ones are made now from biomass that is as durable as standard materials, so the tires resist abrasion well.

Technical carbon is traditionally derived from oil and coal while now it’s made from the same biomass, which in the end allowed making the tire totally from natural materials and exclude oil from production cycles.

Now Sumitomo tests the new tire durability and thinks of putting new concept tire to mass production. The eco-friendly tire called the Enasave 100 is expected to hit the markets in 2013.

At the same time, the company unveiled the new Dunlop Enasave Premium tire that got an AAA mark for its low rolling resistance. It is compounded under the 4D Nano design technology while its rolling resistance was reduced by 6 per cent in comparison to its predecessor. It shows good wet traction as well.

Sumitomo also showed off new commercial tires, the Dunlop Enasave VAN01 and  Enasave SP LT38, both featuring enhanced fuel efficiency. The tires will be available this year (2012).

Sumitomo ST718 Radial Truck Tire

Sumitomo Rubber Industries launches the ST 718 Rib truck tire for urban operation. This Japanese company has been for a long time producing tire for the country’s inner market, but has lately started exporting its products all over the world.

The ST718 Rib is a quality all-season tire that ensures reliable traction even on irregular road surfaces, features longer life span and retreadability.

Its tread pattern is similar to that of other tires belonging to this class, but at the same time it is rather functional. The compound is cut into 5 tread blocks with a large contact patch area, which provides for better contact with the road in any situation.

Central tread blocks include two wide drainage grooves with a lot of sipes, which ensures traction on wet surfaces. In addition, the deep tread excellently suits long rides and contributes to its long life span.

The developers of the Sumitomo ST 718 aimed at making tire with good rolling resistance as it increases fuel efficiency and did their best to achieve this goal. The tire also has an all-steel casing that makes it solid and durable.

So if your need quality radial truck tire and don’t want to pay for a brand, you should have a look and the Sumitomo company, and the ST 718 tire model, in particular.

Sumitomo ST908 Radial Drive Tire

Sumitomo ST908 is a radial drive tire designed for all-season operation on leading axles of trucks and trailers. It is optimized for long haul while ensuring excellent traction.

Sumitomo Rubber Industries is one of the largest corporations in Japan that had been for a long time producing tire for the country’s inner market. Now it exports its products to other markets. When buying Summimoto tires you pay for the Japanese quality instead of the talked-up brand.

The ST908 tire features extra-deep tread that provides for good traction and increases mileage. Moreover, the company made use of modern technologies while manufacturing this tire, which resulted in its advantages over the rival models. For instance, the tire uses C.V.S.T. Casing, which helps it endure stresses on the road, while its 4 steel breakers prevent punctures.

The tire was made from special rubber compound that helps resist heating of the tread elements.  This minimizes tread wear and allows for long-term handling at a high speed.

The ST908’s tread pattern can be divided into two zones. One zone is comprised of central tread blocks separated from each other by draining grooves. Central blocks also provide for standing road-tire contact to increase traction and prevent side slip. The other zone includes large shoulders with wide and deep grooves for evacuating water. The grooves also add to the tire traction on asphalt roads while on soft surfaces they act as lugs. All this allows using this tire all the year round with its tractive power remaining stable.
